It began as a dream in 1977 when three San Jose State students launched Lowrider Magazine, growing it into an international publication and helping tell the stories and show the rolling artwork in and around the Chicano culture. The Lowrider Experience carries on that legacy and is set to celebrate the brand’s 48th anniversary with an eight-show schedule that spans coast-to-coast, showing off the widespread popularity of the unique segment.

Next year's schedule builds on its highly successful 2024 season that was capped off with a massive gathering at the Las Vegas Supershow, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Lowrider Experience’s Hall of Fame dinner was one for the record books as they delivered more than $100,000 in cash awards, trophies, and exhibitor gifts. The 2024 Hall of Fame class included George Torrez (Lifetime), Danny Ochoa (Lifetime), Troy “Big T” Staehler (Leadership), Luis “Speedy” Rodriguez (Leadership), Michael Tovar (Craftsmanship), Art Tuason (Craftsmanship), and Pearl Hernandez-Seiler (Woman of the Year). About Lowrider Magazine

As previously mentioned, Lowrider Magazine was created by three college students in 1977 with Larry Gonzalez, David Nuñez, and Sonny Madrid chasing a dream to help capture the essence of the lowrider culture. The trio struggled for a few years before the title’s popularity skyrocketed. The magazine remained in publication for 42 years before being shuttered in 2019.

The lowrider culture lives on through Lowrider Experience and its shows. MotorTrend produced a special Lowrider Magazine issue in March 2024 that was dedicated to the women in the segment. It was led by Dr. Denise Sandoval, a professor of Chicana/o studies, as she coordinated a group of women in creating this special issue publication. They adhered to the mantra of “made by women, for women” and it can be found in the writing, photography, and creative direction. Modelo supported and highlighted women entrepreneurs in the lowrider industry by donating advertising space in the issue to their businesses.
